Explore the Thai White Villages

The first thing we recommend you do when you arrive in Mai Chau is to explore the Thai White villages. Although Mai Chau is located in a mountainous region, the villages are situated in the valleys, which means the roads are quite flat and easy to navigate. You can easily walk or bike between the villages as they are not too far apart.

Mai Chau is considered the land of the Thai White people, with nearly 100% of the population in the villages being Thai. There are many villages, each located in its own separate area, and the people live and work within these communities. Each village has a large cultural house where they gather for celebrations and community meetings.

The villages are usually situated at the base of hills and near streams, as the ancestors of the Thai people chose to live in places with water sources to facilitate farming. This creates a picturesque, serene, and peaceful landscape.

Conquer 1200 steps of Chieu cave

Chieu Cave is a popular tourist destination in Mai Chau. The distance from Meadow Mai Chau Homestay to the entrance for ascending to Chieu Cave is approximately 2 kilometers.

To reach Chieu Cave, you must climb 1200 stone steps, which requires good physical fitness. Once you conquer them, you’ll be rewarded with the magnificent beauty of this large and stunning cave, providing panoramic views of Mai Chau from a high vantage point.

When visiting, it’s advisable to bring non-slip shoes and mosquito repellent. Parking at the entrance is free, and the entrance fee for one person is 10,000 VND.

Some sections of the road can be a bit challenging with uphill and downhill stretches. If you’re new to riding a motorcycle, it’s advisable to consider our guided local tour or book a tour  transportation to ensure a smoother experience.

The next thing you should do in Mai Chau is to visit the Bo Am natural hot springs. It’s a stunning location with naturally flowing hot springs where you can immerse yourself for a truly relaxing experience. Nearby, you’ll also find the beautiful Tat Nang Waterfall, so you can combine a trip to both places for an even more memorable adventure. About 25 km from Meadow Mai Chau Homestay, to get here you can go by motorbike or car.

Explore Pu Luong

Thing to do in Mai Chau you can enjoy is exploring Pu Luong during the day. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach Pu Luong from Mai Chau. Pu Luong is vast and offers numerous tourist attractions; however, these spots are often quite distant from each other. 1. Kho Muong village

Kho Muong village is nestled within a breathtaking valley, surrounded by imposing hills and lush green rice fields. To reach this village, you must descend quite steeply, as it’s inaccessible by car. Instead, you’ll have to trek downhill along a narrow but incredibly scenic path. This path offers you the chance to marvel at the grandeur of the mountains and the beauty of the surrounding forests. If you’re skilled at riding a motorcycle, you may also consider riding one down to the village.

2. Doi Cave (Kho Muong Cave)

Hang Doi is located within the Kho Muong village, and it’s a remarkably large and beautiful cave. The pathway leading to the cave is suitable for sightseeing, passing through picturesque rice fields and offering views of majestic rocky hills. The entrance fee is 10,000 VND.

4. Hieu Waterfall

Hieu Waterfall is a wonderful spot for bathing and immersing yourself in the crystal-clear, pure natural water. The water flows down from the mountains and is refreshingly cool. If you arrive by car, you’ll need to park it and then walk approximately 800 meters to reach the waterfall area. Alternatively, if you’re on a motorbike, you can ride up, although it can be quite challenging, especially in rainy conditions. There’s no entrance fee here, but if you park your car, you’ll only need to pay 10,000 VND for a motorbike.

5. Water wheels

The water wheels lining both sides of the stream have evolved into a captivating element of the local Thai culture. These water wheels are not merely agricultural tools for the highland region; they have also become a unique attraction for tourists visiting Pu Luong.
